The 2006-07 theme is "Freedom's Challenge"

Entries must be recieved by the
Voice of Democracy Chair
no later than November 1, 2006.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE?

Students in grades 9 through 12 who
are enrolled in a public, private or parochial
high school, or home-study program, in the
United States, its territories and possessions
are eligible to compete. Also eligible are students enrolled in an overseas school as a dependent of U.S. military or U.S. civilian personnel.

Foreign-exchange students and adults over the age of 19 are not eligible to compete.

WHAT IS THE LENGTH OF THE ESSAY?

Not less than three minutes nor more than five minutes.

HOW DO I RECORD MY AUDIO ESSAY?

It is recommended that all essays be recorded on good-quality, standard-size audiocassette tapes.

Participants should be encouraged to record their essays using professional equipment that is often available as a public service by local community based radio stations.

The typewritten essay script is required to process the entry.  Each student decides what he or she would like to talk about (relating to the chosen theme) in the audio essay.

HOW ARE THE AUDIO ESSAYS JUDGED?

All eligible students will be judged on their interpretation of the competition theme.

Point values are assigned as follows:

DELIVERY 20
ORIGINALITY 40
CONTENT 40
MAXIMUM POINTS 100
