Welcome to the web home of the Gen Raymond G Davis VFW Post 12002 Alpharetta, Georgia. We are very proud of our post since we are not typical of a VFW post. We meet in a community center here in Alpharetta. We have no “B&B” no Beer and Bingo since we do not own a post home all of the money we raise goes to help veterans and active duty troops and their families. Our Post motto is “REMBERING VETERANS AND SUPPORTING TROOPS.”
During the past year we have partnered with Rotary Clubs in the North Atlanta area to gather items to fill and mail over 400 packages to troops in both Iraq and Afghanistan
Working with the CFC campaigns in Ft Benning, Fort McPherson, and Fort Gilum we were able to raise money for our signature project Operation Santa. This money was used to touch the lives of 450 children of service men and woman through Operation Gift that is held at Ft McPherson each year before Christmas.
In cooperation with 6 different Starbuck locations and their great customers in the North Atlanta area we were able to ship coffee to troops overseas as well has deliver some to troops at the Va hospital. Some was given to troops at the Atlanta airport through the USO up on the second floor. Coffee was given to the Rangers up at Camp Merrill up at Dahlonega. All in all over 700 pounds of coffee found its way in to the hands of troops serving our great country.
The post members worked really hard to raise money for veterans and troops during our 2 Buddy Poppy events. In all we raised over $5000.00 that went into the relief fund to help veterans and troops in need. 20% of the money we raise with Buddy Poppies goes to the VFW Children’s Home in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.
We held a golf tournament that helped raise money for Operation Santa.
The Post erected a VFW War memorial in front of the public service building in Alpharetta. Then on Memorial Day we held a wreath laying ceremony which will be held annually in remembrance of those who have fallen in service to our country.
Post members took part in boy scout merit badge clinics, volunteered at the VA hospital, sponsored the Ranger Run at Camp Merrill, had a booth at the taste of Alpharetta, took part in the city of Milton memorial day celebration, a number of Americanism projects in the schools, participated in the Alpharetta old soldiers day parade.
The Department of Georgia has again recognized VFW POST 12002 as a an all-state post for 2008-09.I want to thank each and every member of the post who made this recognition possible and for a very successful year for the post. And to those members who are deployed in the war zones around the world all of our thoughts and prayers go with you.
BE SAFE and GIVE’UM HELL
With Kindest Regards,
